Mystery Deepens: YouTube Commentator “Wavy” Confirmed Not to Be the Eccles Child Sex Offender.

It has now been confirmed that the YouTube commentator known as Wavy — whose real name is widely believed to be Gary O’Brien — is not the Gary O’Brien from Eccles who was convicted and imprisoned for sexual offences against children.

That particular individual, from Barton Lane in Eccles, pleaded guilty to engaging in sexual activity with a child and received a 20-month sentence after performing a sex act in front of three young boys in a Salford alleyway. Separate records and reporting establish that the online personality operating under the Wavy name is a different person.

The clarification removes one long-running rumour. Yet it has only sharpened others.

In a recent exchange, Wavy addressed Brighton YouTube — someone he has previously labelled “Brighton Super Mong” — with a pointed message aimed at Matt Taylor: "I don't like you Matt Taylor, if you would like to know why, then invite me to Brighton, I’m not Den Tarragon, I will turn up fatty, carry on and see.”

Taylor responded by cordially inviting him to Brighton, while requesting advance notice of the date. This, Taylor said, was simply to ensure he would not be away at what he described as his “magical imaginary girlfriend’s house in Kent” for the weekend.

The plot thickened further when fellow YouTube commentator Justin P directly asked: “why did you get sent to prison, Gary?”

Wavy’s reply was striking: “a lot, but you will never know. You don't have my name. Come and question me.”

The wording appears to concede that he has served time in prison while simultaneously insisting that his true identity remains out of reach. Justin pressed the point, observing that the answer “that didn't make sense Gary.”

Wavy then expanded: “Let me help you out knobhead, I was adopted age 6 by my maternal grandparents and am proud to carry their name till I die, I’m not hiding from you or anyone else, if you're not willing to meet me, then dont bother me again!! I’ll say it only once, ready? Meet me for a “rattle” or eff off, and don't waste my time.. understood?”

The statement claims an adoption at the age of six by his maternal grandparents and a deliberate choice to retain their surname. It also issues a clear challenge: meet for a physical confrontation (“a rattle”) or stop asking questions.

Taken together, the comments suggest that while Wavy is not the Eccles offender, he acknowledges a prison history of some kind and is protective of the name under which any such record might appear. Whether that history involves serious criminal convictions, and under what precise identity, remains unanswered in public.

The earlier questions about consistency — objecting strongly to being called a paedophile while freely using the slang term “bacon” against others — still hang in the air. The latest exchanges have simply replaced one mystery with another.

Until verifiable records surface under whatever name he ultimately claims, the online figure known as Wavy continues to occupy a space where rumour, denial, and invitation to a fight coexist.
