A QUESTION FOR MY AUDIENCE: AM I CROSSING A LINE WITH MY AI ANIMATIONS?
I want to ask my audience a genuine question, and I'd appreciate honest answers.
As many of you know, I have developed my own distinctive way of using Grok AI. Whenever somebody posts a comment on YouTube, or says something in a YouTube chatroom, that mentions me directly, indirectly, or appears to allude to me, I sometimes take those words and turn them into an AI-generated animation.
That's part of what I do on MattTaylorTV! It's my way of responding to online commentary through technology, satire and entertainment.
Sometimes, people talk about me directly when appearing on YouTube panels. I may use AI tools to animate their image and synchronise their voice with their actual remarks. The intention is to turn what has been said about me into a piece of content for my audience.
One example is Tony Quigley, who has regularly made negative or derogatory comments about me. When I use AI to animate his comments, he has responded by issuing privacy strikes against my YouTube content, objecting to my use of his image.
From my perspective, if somebody chooses to discuss me publicly, it is reasonable to ask whether I should be able to respond creatively to what they have said. But I also recognise that the person on the receiving end may see things differently.
So here's my question to you.
Do you believe that turning publicly posted comments about myself into AI animations is a legitimate form of satire and commentary? Or do you think that using somebody's image and voice in this way can cross a line, even when the original remarks were made publicly?
More importantly, do you think my animations are threatening, intimidating or genuinely distressing to the people depicted in them? Have you ever watched one of my videos and felt that I was going too far?
I'm not asking you to defend me just because you watch my channel. If you think I should change the way I do things, I'd genuinely like to understand why.
I don't want to threaten anybody. I don't want to cause unnecessary distress. I want to create content, respond to commentary about myself, experiment with AI and entertain my audience.
But where should the boundaries be?
Over to you. Please give me your honest opinion.
